As a lover of some very dark work, it’s refreshing to find a show like Pushing Daisies. An original concept, and a premise wherein things go well… and it’s still entertaining! Of all my returning shows this season, I am most excited for my weekly fix of optimism. Check out this new promo, where ABC proves that it is madly in love with its little gem.
When randomly perusing the world of upcomings, I began to think through those film-types who had either disappeared or lost their wonder in my eyes. I stumbled across one in particular: Nicole Kidman. After her dismal failure in my grand disappointment, The Golden Compass, I was hoping for some new project that would let her Aussie self shine again. Of course, I learned (with great relief) that she was set to return to the roots that made me love her, those roots being Baz Luhrmann. Another lost soul in film, he’s clearly rising back up again, using Hugh Jackman (otherwise known as a man who can do no wrong, even in a bad film) as a great springboard for his return. I’m excited already, and I didn’t even know this existed until moments ago.
The series is complete, and yet fansites such as Mugglenet and The Leaky Cauldron still run strong, perpetuated by the final leftovers of a franchise that finished a year ago yesterday. I’m intrigued to see how the excitement and power of Harry Potter manages to continue into the series’ final two (wait, maybe three) films.
Well, imagine my surprise (along with the surprise of IMAX viewers all over) to discover the first teaser trailer for the penultimate(ish) film, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince!
I laughed for hours after seeing this. I’m still laughing. I just wasted 23 seconds of your life. You’re welcome.
There is nothing to do during the summer. No, ignore my recent surge of movie reviews, my amusing quips, and the concept of the outdoors. Really, the only solace one may find in this depressing, lonely, stuff-to-do-free world, we only have one place to turn: viral videos.
Here comes what many thought utterly unfilmable: the arguable Holy Grail of comic stories comes to the big screen, with several actors that only someone like me would recognize (not that the masks help any). When I first heard about The Watchmen, I was immediately skeptic. Then I saw this, and I can do nothing but anticipate it highly.
I have long anticipated this sequel to Christopher Nolan’s immaculate re-imagining of the Batman franchise, Batman Begins. The original is probably the best superhero film ever made…
Or, rather, it was until The Dark Knight hit the screen. Read more
I came into the theatre on this one fully prepared for an amusingly saccharine singing and dancing extravaganza, with Meryl Streep radiating her way through the whole shiny spectacle.
I left the theatre with an urge to vomit. Oh dear god. Read more
Okay, wow. I’m slightly afraid. not in any sort of actually frightened manner, mind you, but more just disturbed that the creators of Saw are doing a musical… and that Anthony Stewart Head agreed to be in it.
Not to mention that Sarah Brightman from Phantom of the Opera is still alive. That would frighten anyone.
Anyway, being the devout Buffy the Vampire Slayer follower that I am, as well as keeping mild interest with the Saw series as well as other rock operas that have been made into film, I am of course contractually obligated to attend. I’d caution the rest of you, though. I’m not too sure it’ll be safe to enter that movie theatre. I think watching this movie will kill your soul (but no worse than Dead Alive did mine).
Here we are: the much-anticipated sequel to what is arguably (and by arguably, I mean argue all you like, because I know I’m right) the best Batman film to date. Heath Ledger’s Joker is clearly going to be off the charts in quality, and with the recipe created by Batman Begins, there is really no way to lose.
